How to Build a Retaining Wall that Lasts

We have had quite a few people asking what the best products are to use for building a retaining wall that lasts.

As per the diagram:

  • Build your MASONARY BLOCK WALL*
  • Put a WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE on the back side
  • Completely cover the DRAINAGE CELL with a GEOTEXTILE FABRIC
  • Add 100mm AG DRAIN in line with the existing concrete substrate to ensure that excess water can drain away, then backfill this area with GRAVEL.
  • Finalise the wall by ensuring the existing sub soil is flush against the new wall.

Using these above steps will ensure that your retaining wall won't be weakened by excess water retention behind the wall, therefore increasing its life.

So, now you know the HOW - you want to know WHAT the best products are to use? Here are our recommendations:

*Using Dincel instead of a block wall? We would recommend that you use the Drizoro Maxseal Flex for your waterproofing.
